Well, it’s 2018, a whole new year. So much to do.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll agree that time flies. I like to stay active and busy, which leaves very little time for reflection. So, 2017, like most years, seemed to happen in the blink of an eye. We had a great year, lots of growth, some new faces and we achieved all of the goals that were set at the beginning of 2016, which is very important to me. It’s very positive and has me excited for 2018 but it doesn’t change how quickly it all happened, that’s the concerning part.
This weekend, I uncharacteristically sat around a lot, there’s no shortage of stuff I could have been doing, yet there I was, wasting hours, just sitting. If I’m honest, it felt good, the day slowed to a crawl and felt really long, in a nice, quiet way. I can’t remember the last time I noticed so many little details that surround me daily, comforting smells and sounds, the slow pace seemed to recharge my batteries.
When you own a business, it’s a lot, everyday. Meetings, goals, spreadsheets and coffee, you have to bring it today, then wake up and repeat. It can be exhausting and very easy to get run down. This is especially true if you have a bad day (or even a bad meeting), any negative interaction can really slow your progress – if you let it! It’s really important to fit in meetings that get you interested or excited again. For example, today I had lunch with a friend/client who always brings great energy, for about an hour, we had an amazing conversation. We talked about everything from food to business and left feeling excited about the plans we made. I love booking this type of meeting on a Monday – I schedule a meeting like this with someone who is going to help start the week off right and set the tone moving forward.
I’ll leave you with this, from one of my all time favourite movies:
Ferris Bueller: “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”
Don’t miss it, stop and look around, put your phone down, have a conversation and live in the moment. In 2018, stay motivated and crush your goals but make time to slow things down when you can, you’ll be even more productive!
Until next time.
